Show Your Green With These Crochet and Knitting Projects

We are officially in March which brings with it the minor holiday of St. Patrick's Day. Even if you're not Irish - and maybe especially if you're not Irish - this has become a day to celebrate all that is amazing about Ireland. It's colours; it's symbols; it's food and drink; it's natural propensity for having a good time no matter what.

So let's use our knitting and crochet skills to add a bit of whimsy and tradition into our lives, shall we? I've scoured the internet for projects in both knitting and crochet I'd either like to make or have already pegged as a future WIP. Maybe some of them will resonate with you.

Let's start with some that are a bit quicker to make.

Washcloths

Celtic Cable Dishcloth

Who doesn't love the look of a cable? This is a knitting pattern by Louise Bollanos of Handy Little Me. Using a gorgeous washcloth like this might make washing up fun.

Maybe! You might also like this Shamrock pattern washcloth from Yarnspirations.

Shamrocks are another popular motif for St. Patrick's Day and you can find quite a few different washcloth and coaster patterns out there for them, like this one with these fun popcorn stitches that make a shamrock design.

Crocheted Shamrock Dishcloth

I know her watermark says Etsy but I'm a Ravelry girly so I've linked her Ravelry Shop. She's got several other fun patterns for St. Patrick's day including one that uses those popcorn stitches to spell out "Kiss me". How fun is that?

I shared a Valentine's Day garland pattern so it seems only fair that I share a St. Patrick's Day garland too. This one is from Our Friendly World crochet and you can find it on Etsy or her website. I've linked her website.

Nested Shamrock Baskets

There are several designers that I love to revisit and HanJan Crochet is one of them. She just released these nested Shamrock baskets and I think they are so sweet! Perfect for potted plants or to be used as a WIP basket.

Now let's look at some projects that might take a bit longer to make but I think look stunning!

Celtic Cable Fingerless Gloves

From the same designer as the Celtic Cable Dishcloth above, and inspired by the TV series Outlander, these fingerless gloves are stunning! I can imaging them in Estelle Worsted and I really want to cast them on.

Puff Stitch Toque with Shamrock

How adorable is this toque? I love a puff stitch and the addition of the shamrock makes it perfect to wear to watch a St. Patrick's Day parade. The shamrock is designed to be detachable so this hat can be worn all winter long with ease.

Shamrock Granny Square Afghan

Who doesn't love a granny square? This four leaf clover granny square worked into a blanket is stunning! And this type of project is perfect for taking on the go. Each square is small enough to work on where ever you are. It's only once you're attaching them all that it becomes a 'stay at home' project.

Cosy for Cables Blanket

If you watched my yarn stash video from my recent post, you'll have seen that I have a basket full of yarn to make this exact blanket. One day! While maybe not specifically "St. Patrick's Day", cables are decidedly Celtic and her green and cream colour palette most definitely is on theme.

However you want to celebrate, or decorate for, St. Patrick's Day, I hope these patterns give you a place to start. And in case you're into amigurumi, here's a cute Shamrock for you to crochet.

Isn't he sweet?
